Salem Monastery and Castle
The extensive complex brings 700 years of cultural history to life. You can see the Gothic cathedral with its unique early classical alabaster furnishings, the cloister and the summer refectory of the monks, the representative baroque prelature with the magnificent imperial hall, abbot salon and library of the monastery,.
In addition, as a branch museum of the Baden State Museum, the monastery museum shows exhibits on the history of art and architecture of the monastery as well as the Salem Marienaltar by Bernhard Striegel, which was built around 1507.
Also a large fire brigade museum documents fire history from three centuries at two locations. The baroque stables, a distillery museum, a historical torkel and various handicraft workshops complete the sightseeing program.
Furthermore, Schloss Salem offers a diverse cultural program with themed days, wine tasting and numerous concerts.
