The tower, visible from afar, is the rest of a castle that was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War. As a lookout tower, it now offers a unique view of Lake Constance and the Alps.
The high white tower shapes the landscape of the Linzgau. It belonged to a castle that was built at the end of the 11th century by the Lords of Bodman. Because of the disputes with the Salem Monastery, they sold the castle to the Hochstift Konstanz. It later came into the possession of the city of Überlingen. The castle was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War, and only the Gothic round tower was preserved.

The 37-meter tower with walls over three meters thick was bought by the municipality of Owingen, extensively restored and is now a popular destination for excursions. An attractive rest area has been set up in front of the tower. Those who are not afraid to climb the 138 steps to the platform will be rewarded with a wonderful view of the Salemertal, Lake Constance and the Alps. An "intelligent" observation telescope not only brings the peaks closer, but when you look through the lens, the names of the respective mountains are also shown.
