The small, lovingly designed museum in Salem-Mimmenhausen gives an insight into the life and work of the famous baroque artist Joseph Anton Feuchtmayer, known as the creator of the "Honigschlecker".
Joseph Anton Feuchtmayer, one of the creators of the Baroque jewel Pilgrimage Church Birnau, acquired the former tax and landscape house in 1730 from his most important client, Salem Abbey, and set up his workshop here. Even after his death, the estate was continued by his successors as a sculptor's workshop.
In 1990 the municipality of Salem took over the former artist's house and renovated it extensively.

In June 2000, the current museum was opened there. Visitors can experience the conditions under which the master and his workshop worked in the 18th century, see what the inside of his stucco figures looks like, learn how a gilded cherub's head is made from a raw block of wood and can discover the secret of Feuchtmayer's stucco marble. They also get to know Joseph Anton Feuchtmayer as a highly talented draftsman, who presented his designs to clients in color and perspective.
