The Hofgut Mendlishausen, once the manor of the Salem monastery, now houses the well-known Affenberg. Around 200 Barbary Macaques live in this unique park as if they were in the wild.
In the 20-hectare forest, visitors can experience the animals up close without separating grids and ditches and may even feed the animals with specially prepared popcorn.

The animals, originally from mountain regions in Morocco and Algeria, enjoy life in a natural environment. Thanks to the very similar climate, the barbary macaques spend the whole year outdoors. Trained employees offer visitors a wealth of information about the behavior of the animals and the rearing of the young. They also have a lot of amusing things to say about their protégés.

The idyllic area around the pond populated by numerous water birds and carp is shared by the Barbary macaques with a trusting pack of fallow deer and a free-flying colony of white storks. 18 breeding pairs raise their offspring on the Affenberg and can be observed up close.

Outside the outdoor enclosure, a cozy courtyard inn and an adventure playground invite you to linger - an ideal and out-of-the-ordinary destination for the whole family.

Note:

Dogs are not allowed in the park.

The park is accessible for prams and wheelchair users with a companion.
