Discover the region
The term "Linzgau" goes back to the Latin derivation of the Celtic river name "Lentia", which originated as Linzer Aach in the north of the region and flows into Lake Constance under the name Seefelder Ach near Unteruhldingen.
Archaeological finds already document a settlement in the Stone Age, the first pile dwellings on the lakeshore date from the Neolithic Age and grave finds date from Celtic times. Thereafter, the Linzgau also belonged to the sphere of influence of the Roman Empire, before Alemannic tribes settled here. The Roman historian Ammianus Marcellinus mentions a tribe in the 4th century AD, which is named after the Celtic river name "Lentienser" and is described in the historical sources as particularly raucous ....
But don't worry, the Lentienser of today know how to behave well.
